My 1968 Saab 96

Pretty much everything that happened to me associated with this car is some long and entertaining story... there used to be one of those long and entertaining stories up here, but after the big server crash of late 2002, it was lost :-(. So, you'll have to accept these pictures of the trip we made to visit my friend Chip at West of Sweden Saab without any brakes. (Right, NJ to VA, with no useful brakes, and in the snow, Early January 2001).

After driving to a job fair at Rutger University, Alvaro and I headed out on the road for Virginia.... the snow started in South Jersey.

A stop over at the Crackel Barrel for lunch in Maryland.

Ready for the road again....

Now at Chips a day later... the major job here was to renew all the brakes. With some luck, we'd drive a car home with brakes.

Thats Chip.

Now, Sunday evening, getting ready to pull out and head to NJ again.... the Saab was ready for the challenge, now with excellent brakes.

On the Road....

The Foot Cam

Cool tunnel shot... North on I-95...

The Saab ended up getting about 30 mpg there and back, and didn't burn a drop of oil. We make this trip a few days after buying the car... it had been sitting in a shed for a few years. This is, perhaps, the stupidest thing I've ever done to risk my life, and yes, it was worth every moment. This car inspired me to later register the NJ tag "JALOPY1".

The End.
